Basque Cybersecurity ecosystem gains European recognition

To this end, the presidency of the ECSO's Work-Group Number 2 constitutes an important international display-case for exhibiting everything this region has to offer to the sector. The appointment comes hot on the heels of Javier Diéguez's nomination last June as representative on the European Regions Partnership Board of this public-private organisation.

More precisely, the work-group which Javier Diéguez is to co-direct has determined one of its goals to be offering ECSO members a better grasp of this market, covering both products and services and suppliers. Similarly, the group is to centre its activity on designing innovative public and private investment programmes, and broadcasting the cybersecurity market's new lines and tendencies, by creating a community of investors and back-up industries.

A new international success for Basque cybersecurity

This appointment will help put the Basque Country in the international spotlight in matters of cybersecurity, under the auspices of one of Europe's most important organisations in the sector: ECSO is a public-private organisation made up of public administrations, companies, research centres, associations, regions and a wide range of bodies dedicated to cybersecurity.

The Basque Cybersecurity Centre is the result of a plan backed by the Basque Government to conserve and foster industrial development, competitivity and innovation in the Basque Country. Our aim is to fuse cybersecurity culture to the core of Basque society, thus contributing to the economic development of the area and placing the Basque Country at the forefront of applying cybersecurity measures in industry. To this end, and since joining ECSO as a fully-fledged member, we have been specially active and this, in turn has led to our playing an important role in the organisation.

The appointment of our director at the head of this Work-Group is the result of months of activities undertaken to demonstrate the Basque Country's capacities in the field of cybersecurity, and the potential of our ecosystem. These activities have gone hand in hand with grants endowed by SPRI to promote the deployment of cybersecurity measures in industry, or the creation of a White Paper on Cybersecurity in the Basque Country, both measures ultimately contributing to being better protected and situating the Basque Country as an international benchmark.
